I-Prep improved to 13-5 overall and 8-2 in the Yale Cup, and tightened its hold on the third seed in Class A-1 for sectionals, with a convincing 69-56 victory over the Panthers of East. Junior Emir Lindsay connected on 5 triples to lead Iprep scorers with 24 points, while senior center Biel Douth pulled down 10 rebounds, blocked 12 Panther shots, dished out 5 assists, and scored 5 points. Senior point guard Dante Gibson had 13 points and 7 rebounds and senior guard Versi Hawkins had 15 points and 3 steals for the Presidents. Tandem point guard Angel Serrano scored 10 points, including a key third quarter trey-ball that spurred on a 16-8 President run. Junior Jaydan Daniels added 2 for Iprep and juniors Nizier Smith and Damone Lee provided much-needed defensive depth in the second half. The Presidents will now gear up for two important league games in the coming week: they play at South Park on Tuesday, February 14th and then play at Middle Early College on Thursday, February 16th. Iprep looks to host a quarterfinal playoff game on Friday, February 24th at 7pm, as the Presidents gear up for a strong run in the sectionals.
