Frewsburg open the season with a league win over the visiting Portville Panthers, 74-51. The game was tied after the 1st quarter at 13. But, the tide turned in the 2nd quarter when Senior Gavin Smith ripped off 14 of his game high 20 points. The home team led at the half, 38-23. Portville adjusted their defense in the 2nd half to limit Smith. That's when the Bears went to their post game with Kael Collver scoring 7 and Blake Weaver scoring 6 in the 3rd quarter. The Bears ended with 4 scoring in double figures, led by Smith who tallied 20 points. Collver and Weaver, both had 15 points, while Chase Haglund chipped in 11. Collver and Weaver tied again in rebounds with 9, while Smith led in steals with 6 and Garrett Brink led in assists with 6.
Portville was led by Aiden DeFazio, who scored 15 points and Troy Van Sickle with 12. Van Sickle also pulled down 6 rebounds.
Frewsburg plays again on Friday, 12/15 vs Westfield in the Southwestern Tournament.
Portville hits the court again on Monday, 12/18 when they host Randolph.
